An Internet Connection "Keep Alive" Procedure
Is your Internet Service Provider (ISP) "hanging up" - i.e.,
disconnecting the phone line from your PC modem - after just a few
minutes of Internet idle time?
My ISP (worldlinkisp.com) used to allow about 30 to 60 minutes
of Internet idle time before disconnecting from my PC.
Recently they have begun disconnecting after only about two to
three minutes of Internet idle time. This is such a pain - because often
I must redial, over and over again!
So, I wrote three tiny web pages, to help solve this problem.
They are:
1.
http://www.patmoss.com/refresh.htm
2.
http://www.patmoss.com/refresh2.htm
3.
http://www.patmoss.com/refresh3.htm
After browsing to one of these web pages, the web page will delay
from 40 to 59 seconds (a different random value each time).
And then it will call one of the other two web pages (at random).
Next the second web page will delay from 40 to 59 seconds. And
then it will call one of the other two web pages. Ad infinitum.
The minimal level of activity keeps the Internet connection from
remaining idle, and prevents my ISP from disconnecting from my PC modem.
This Internet connection "Keep Alive" web page software is very easy to use.
You just need to:
a. Set your internet browser to allow opening more than one Window at a time.
b. Browse to
http://www.patmoss.com/refresh.htm
c. Minimize that web page, so that it will not clutter up your screen.
d. Then go ahead and continue using the Internet as usual.
That's all there is to it.
You can terminate the refresh.htm / refresh2.htm / refresh3.htm web
page loop whenever you like.
This simple procedure prevents my ISP from disconnecting. And
hopefully, this procedure will work for you as well.
